My name is Mike Lyons. I’m the creator of this course. I’m a Canadian English teacher living in Gifu Prefecture. I have a Masters degree in Online Education. I’m an amateur coffee roaster, and I love talking about coffee!🤎
I have created an English course for coffee roasters, other coffee professionals, and hobbyists. Topics covered in this course include coffee plantations, sustainability, the history of coffee culture, and much more.
Method
Coffee-related vocabulary is the core of the program. Students will learn vocabulary through online reading, listening and writing activities. There are also some AI-assisted pronunciation lessons. Finally, students will have the opportunity to use the vocabulary they have learned in live conversation lessons using MS Teams.
Who is this for?
The course is designed for coffee professionals and hobbyists who want to improve their English ability, particularly relating to coffee. English ability can open doors to business opportunities and international friendships in the coffee world. The course’s English difficulty is set at high school 2nd year. Note that there is no pressure; students at higher and lower levels will enjoy the course too. Students will need basic computing ability to participate.

Group lessons are 15,000yen per month for four 1-hour lessons. Taxes and teaching materials are included. The minimum group size is 3 students and the maximum group size is 8 students. There is no refund for cancelation. Lessons are online.
Group lesson days and times are as follows:
- Group A: Sundays 2-3pm
- Group B: Mondays 8-9pm
- Group C: Wednesdays 7-8pm
Private lessons are 25,000yen per month for four 1-hour lessons. Taxes and teaching materials are included. Cancelation is possible with 24 hours notice. Day and time will be mutually agreeable, and will be the same each week. Contracts are monthly. Lessons are online.
